Zipping finished fourth in the race for the third time in his career, from four runs in the Melbourne Cup.

Americain could be named the winner rounding the home turn after travelling strongly throughout the race, and he pulled away from his rivals after swooping past So You Think approaching the 200 metres mark.

The winner will now remain in Australia to race for Jayco caravan king Gerry Ryan.

So You Think looked briefly to hold a winning claim after moving into the lead in the home straight, but he weakened in the final 100 metres after overracing early behind the moderate pace set by Once Were Wild.

So You Think new Melbourne Cup favourite

So You Think is poised to start as the shortest priced Melbourne Cup favourite in recent history after a Sportingbet Australia punter placed $30,000 on the Bart Cummings star at odds of $6.00.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said So You Think had already shortened from $8 to $6 following his dominant Yalumba win and punters had been happy to snap up the price.

“The phone rang hot following Saturday’s performance with punters wanting to get on,” said Sullivan.

“We tightened him up to $5 following the $30,000 bet and punters have not hesitated to take that price as well.

“The way he’s dominated his campaign is a little frightening and while he’s unproven at the two miles there’s a real school of thought that he’s unbeatable over any trip.”

So You Think is into $1.65 for the Cox Plate with a dominant win likely to see his Melbourne Cup price tighten even further.
